Team Meet & Greet: John
John / Caretaker - St. Andrew’s Community Centre
We recently caught up with John, one of our caretakers here in St. Andrew’s - read further to learn more about his role here!
1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and what your role is here at St Andrew’s?
My name is John, I’m from Crumlin, and I’ve been the caretaker here for the last 12 years (maybe even a bit more!). Outside of work, I’m big into football, boxing, and enjoying a good beer.
2. What does your job entail, and how do you support the work of the centre?
A bit of everything, really - I set up rooms for bookings, make sure the building is in good shape, and look after the staff when needed. If something needs doing, I’m usually the one making sure it gets sorted.
3. What have been some highlights or challenges in your role recently?
I love setting up for shows and bands - that’s always a highlight. Getting the garden ready during the summer events is great too. I’ve really enjoyed helping with the stages for performers and looking after guests and theatre groups that come through the doors.
4. Finally, do you have a fun fact, favourite moment, or something inspiring you’d like to share with our readers?
The best part of the job is mixing with the characters who use the building. From the men’s group to the gardeners and all the diverse groups that come in, there’s never a dull moment. They’re what make the centre—and my job—so interesting.
