Spotlight: Jamaicans in Ireland Disapora

We recently invited Jamaicans in Ireland Diaspora to tell us a little bit more about themselves and their involvement in St. Andrew’s Community Centre.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and what inspired you to approach St Andrew’s Community Centre for a room?

We are the Jamaicans in Ireland Diaspora - a community group dedicated to supporting Jamaicans and friends of Jamaica living in Ireland. We approached St. Andrew’s Community Centre because of its strong community spirit and inclusive environment. It has been an ideal space for bringing people together, celebrating culture, and supporting one another.

Tell us more about the activity you run and who it’s for.
We organise cultural, social, and community - focused events for Jamaicans in Ireland, their families, and the wider local community. Our activities include cultural celebrations, networking meet-ups, family events, and community support initiatives. Our goal is to preserve Jamaican culture, foster belonging, and build strong connections across communities.

How has it been going so far?
It’s been going extremely well. Over the past few years, our events at St. Andrew’s have brought together people of all ages and backgrounds. Attendance, engagement, and community feedback have been very positive, and we’re proud of the warm, supportive environment we’ve created.  In addition, the centre contributed to our hurricane relief efforts following Hurricane Melissa, which caused significant damage in Jamaica. This support was deeply appreciated and demonstrated genuine solidarity with the Jamaican community during a difficult time.

How can someone get in touch with you?
People can reach us via:
• Email: irishjamaican2017@gmail.com
• Facebook: Jamaican Community in Ireland Diaspora
• Phone/WhatsApp: 0830219960/0858117961/0897077409

Lastly, do you have an interesting or inspiring fact you’d like to share with us?
An inspiring fact about our community is that Jamaica, though a small island, has had a global impact in music, sports, and culture - from reggae and dancehall to world-class athletes. We’re proud to continue sharing that rich legacy here in Ireland.
