We recently invited Katie to tell us a little bit more about herself and her involvement in St. Andrew’s Community Centre!
Can you tell us a little about yourself and what inspired you to approach St Andrew’s Community Centre for a room?
My name is Katie and I'm from Dublin. I spent the majority of my 20s travelling and living abroad. Throughout this time, I always kept up my yoga routine and met so many lovely people from attending classes, workshops etc.
In March 2024, I completed 200 hours of Yoga Teacher Training in Kathmandu, Nepal. I absolutely loved this experience and learned so much from both the teachers and the students in the group. Since then, I've completed further training in MyoYin and Yoga Assist.
I moved to the area last year and wanted to offer affordable community classes. I came across the community centre and thought it was such a lovely space, so I decided to enquire. The team in St Andrew's have been so great to deal with, it's such a vibrant community space and I'm delighted to be a part of it!
Tell us more about the activity you run and who it’s for.
I run weekly yoga classes on Thursday evenings that are open to all levels. The classes follow a slow yoga, Vinyasa- style flow, making them beginner-friendly. I also offer variations and options for those who have been coming regularly or have a more established yoga practice.
The classes focus on foundational poses, alignment, yogic breathing and relaxation techniques to help build strength, flexibility and mindfulness.
The room has a maximum capacity of 12, which allows for smaller group sizes and a more personal approach. I aim to create a welcoming and warm environment where everyone feels comfortable, regardless of their experience or ability. My hope is that the classes offer a chance to slow down, take some time for yourself and connect with others in the community.
How has it been going so far?
It's been going well! It's been a great way to meet people in the area, and I've really enjoyed getting to know everyone who has come along so far. I'm still building awareness of the classes and would love to get the word out to more people in the community. Promotion is definitely not my strong point! So it's something I need to put a little more time into. Overall, it's been a really positive experience so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the classes grow.

I completed a 3 day hike across Indonesia’s second-highest volcano- Mt Rinjani. Hardest thing I've ever done!
