Taking place on Monday 10th August, from 6.00pm to 10.00pm at St. Andrew's Community Centre, this free community event brings together local history, conversation, and shared memories in a welcoming atmosphere for all ages.
Whether you've lived in Rialto your whole life, recently moved to the area, or simply have an interest in Dublin's rich social history, this promises to be a great evening.
What to Expect
Throughout the evening, visitors can enjoy:
A community archive exhibition showcasing Rialto life from 1926 to today, brought together by our Events & Communications Officer Kat Ennis, who has compiled a vast array of local contributions over the past few weeks in preparation for this event.
A relaxed gathering with conversation and light refreshments throughout the centre as well as in our garden.
Opportunities to reconnect with neighbours and share local memories
A special History Panel Discussion beginning at 7.30pm in the main hall
The panel will feature respected local voices including:
Cathy Scuffil - Local Historian & Former Historian in Residence at Dublin City Library and Archive
Liz Gillis - Historian and Author
Ray Hegarty β Socially Engaged Artist and Rialto Local
The discussion will be led by Andy Malone, one of the producers behind RTΓ's recent series Come to Your Census, released earlier this year to coincide with the public opening of the 1926 Census archives. Having grown up in the area himself, Andy will lead a conversation with local historians and community voices exploring how the area has evolved over the past century, reflecting on the people, events and enduring community spirit that continue to define Rialto today.
The 1926 Census provides a unique snapshot of everyday life in Ireland a century ago. Rialto Recounted uses this milestone as an opportunity not only to look back, but also to celebrate the generations of families, workers, businesses, schools and community organisations that have contributed to Rialto's remarkable story.
Historic photographs, personal memories and local archives will help paint a picture of how the neighbourhood has changed while highlighting the strong community connections that remain at its heart.
