Team Meet & Greet: Yuliya
We recently caught up with Yuliya, Senior Healthcare Assistant at Rialto Social Day Care Centre. Read on to learn more about her role, the work of the centre, and what inspires her most about supporting the local community.
1. Tell us a bit about yourself – What’s your role at St Andrew’s, and which project are you involved with?
My name is Yuliya, and I have worked as the Senior Healthcare Assistant at the Rialto Social Day Care Centre for the past three years. My role centres around building strong relationships — both with our team and with the clients who attend the centre.
As part of my work with the team, I support the induction and training of new staff members. I believe it is important for carers to be both confident and intuitive in their work. Looking after your own wellbeing is just as important as caring for others, so I always encourage a strong sense of self-care within the team.
In supporting our clients, we provide a safe and welcoming environment while helping people maintain their independence and autonomy. This can include assisting with everyday tasks such as phone calls, emails, or appointments, while also offering emotional support, encouragement, and companionship. From the moment someone arrives until they leave for the day, our focus is on helping them feel supported, valued, and connected.
2. Can you give us an overview of what your project does within the centre?
The day care centre is a vital service within the local community, supporting not only those who attend but also their families and loved ones. We provide a welcoming social space where people can connect with others, build friendships, and feel part of a community of people at a similar stage of life.
Our aim is to create an environment where everyone feels included, supported, and encouraged to stay active and engaged.
3. What have been some recent highlights or challenges in your role?
Honestly, every day brings something positive. It is an incredibly rewarding role, and I truly believe you get back what you put into it. No two days are ever the same, which keeps things dynamic and engaging for our team and our clients. Every day brings value in its own way.

5. Lastly, do you have a fun fact, favourite memory, or something that’s inspired you lately that you’d like to share with our readers?
Alongside our day-to-day care services, we are always looking for ways to stay connected with the wider community. One recent highlight has been preparing for our exhibition as part of Bealtaine 2026 at the end of May.
We also host monthly coffee mornings, which have become very popular locally and always attract a lovely crowd. The centre is truly built by and for the community, and that sense of connection helps create new memories every single day.
